Collecting Original Work

This page is intended to answer the practical questions that come with buying original art, so that the experience of collecting feels as considered and straightforward as the work itself.

The Work

What are the paintings made on? All of my current work is painted in oil on wood panel. Panel is the surface of choice for many serious oil painters — it is rigid, archival, and provides a stability that canvas cannot match. Properly cared for, a painting on panel will outlast generations.

What sizes do you typically work in? Most paintings fall in the range of 8×8 to 16×16 inches, though sizes vary by piece. All dimensions are listed individually on each painting's product page, and all measurements reflect the panel size before framing.

Do you varnish your paintings? Yes. Each painting receives a final varnish once cured, which protects the surface, enriches the color, and provides an even, unified finish across the painting.

Framing

Do your paintings come framed? My oil paintings are framed before it ships. You will never receive a bare panel. Framing is considered part of the work — the frame is chosen to complement each individual piece rather than applied as an afterthought. My pastel works on archival paper come unframed.

What kind of frames do you use? I use simple, gallery-appropriate frames that honor the painting without competing with it. Clean profiles, natural or muted finishes. The goal is always for your eye to go to the painting first.

Can I request a different frame? If you have a specific framing need — a particular finish, a floater style, or a custom profile for a specific space — reach out before purchasing and I am happy to discuss what is possible.

Purchasing

What is the price range for original work? Original paintings typically are priced between $725 and $2,500, depending on size and complexity. Prices are listed on each individual painting page.

Is each painting truly one of a kind? Yes, all oil paintings are unique originals. A small number of limited edition prints from my pastel work (Laguna Beach Collection) are available separately and are noted as such.

Do you accept commissions? I do not accept commissions at this time. The work in the shop represents paintings made from direct observation and personal response to the landscape — a process that does not translate well to specification. If you are looking for something specific in terms of subject, size, or palette, I encourage you to reach out and I will let you know when something relevant becomes available.

How do I know when new work is available? The best way is to join the collector list. New paintings are offered to the list first, before they appear publicly in the shop. Sign up at the bottom of this page or on the About page.

Authenticity & Provenance

Does each painting include a certificate of authenticity? Yes. Every original painting ships with a signed certificate of authenticity that documents the title, dimensions, medium, surface, and date of completion. This is your permanent record of ownership and provenance, and it travels with the painting if you ever pass it on.

Is the painting signed? Yes. Each painting is signed on the back of the panel with my full name, title, and year. Smaller works are initialed on the front; larger works carry a full signature. The back of every panel is considered part of the permanent record of the work.

Shipping & Care

How do paintings ship? All paintings are shipped by me personally, framed and carefully packed for safe transit. I do not use fulfillment services. Every package is prepared with the same attention I give the work itself.

Where do you ship? I ship throughout the United States. If you are outside the US and interested in a piece, contact me directly and I will do my best to accommodate.

How long does shipping take? Most paintings ship within five to seven business days of purchase. You will receive tracking information as soon as your package is on its way.

What if the painting arrives damaged? In the unlikely event that a painting arrives damaged in transit, contact me within 48 hours with photographs of the damage and packaging. I will work with you directly to make it right.

How should I care for an oil painting on panel? Keep the painting away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperature fluctuations. Dust lightly with a soft dry cloth if needed. Do not use cleaning products of any kind on the painted surface. Beyond that, oil on panel is one of the most durable painting formats in existence — these works are made to last.
